NO ONE SHOULD FACE BREAST CANCER ALONE.

Every year OCTOBER month is celebrated in a different spirit.

The spirit of her fight. Not for the others, but for herself.

Yes, the coming month will be celebrated as breast cancer awareness month. In this month we all (Patients, families, care providers, nurses and doctors) come together to cheer up the spirit of people fighting breast cancer. We not only wish to encourage them, but also try to educate general public about this dreaded disease.  It’s being said that the great wars against a disease are not won by building great hospitals, but by educating the general public and making them aware about the disease. If we all come together and educate each person about cancer, then a large number of cases can be cured in initial stages. The impact of this awareness will be even more than the impact made by any chemotherapy or treatment made over the last 100 years.

This is the reason that we celebrate Breast cancer awareness month. Though, not limited to breast cancer only. We try to educate, and encourage general public to fight this disease. Every year, there is some theme given to this fight.

This year the theme is very simple, yet bold enough to shake everyone’s thoughts.

NO ONE SHOULD FACE BREAST CANCER ALONE.

We shared our thought with some of the patients and asked about their views.

Dr. Romana, a breast cancer fighter and winner said that the support of all the family members and friends is very important, but the most important support is from one's partner. Life becomes a lot easier and the treatment much more tolerable. Sometimes when the spirits are down he is the one who uplifts you.

Ms. Shuchi said - Yes, having a supportive life partner makes the roller coaster ride of the treatment, emotions; mood swings a smooth sailing ship. He boosts you up, so that you can do it, fight it, just feels like you have conquered the world. Emotional support from the family especially your spouse plays a great role in treatment.  Loving, caring and understanding husband makes your journey much easier.

Dr. Maninder, a survivor explains her thoughts. Positive persons around you also have a major role to play in your journey from disease to recovery. My mother in law took care of my kids so well and handled the house .My mother used to call me daily and put some positive thought in my mind. Every single smile matters. Sometimes you have to smile and give strength to your family because they are also going through the pain seeing their loved one going through all that.

Being Doctor I underwent treatment in the same hospital where I am working. Understanding and Empathetic Oncology team who understands what their patients are going through and helping them face the fear and giving them hope and proper guidance what to expect through treatment and how to handle the side effects is important too. It’s not just the surgery and Chemo, it’s much beyond that. Healing takes time. You have to be patient with yourself and give yourself time to heal.

Support Groups - Have faith. Your colleagues will be very supportive. Sharing with your close friends frees you. Talking to someone who has already completed the treatment before helps or knowing about others success stories. The role of support groups as this one is also very important as we can share our experiences and get answers to our queries. Being part of support groups like this helps you let your thoughts out and get inspiration from others stories. Be inspiration and motivation for others who are currently fighting the battle.

Ms. Shelly Chopra shares her thoughts for the same. Reflecting on emotional journey of cancer treatment is a powerful experience. Looking back on my journey through cancer, it feels like I've lived through a storm. But through it all, there was an undeniable thread of love, resilience & gratitude that carried me forward. The love of my daughters & husband became the lifeline that kept me anchored when I felt like I was drifting. Then there was resilience - a strength I didn't know I had. Each day became a battle but also a small victory. I found strength in moments of weakness, in knowing that every setback was a setup for a new chance of survival.

Gratitude – Gratitude for the life itself. Gratitude for my nurses, my doctors and my co-passengers. Great gratitude to my Sadguru, Her Holiness Gurumaa for providing me faith & inner strength to fight this disease.

Ms. Namrata explains - Be proud of how you have been handling your hard times. The silent battles you fought, the moments you had to humble yourselves, wiped your own tears, and pat yourself on the back. CELEBRATE YOUR STRENTGH!! Definitely you feel stronger and a better person once you start feeling normal. Your new normal and be inspiration and motivation for others who are currently fighting the battle.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO START ALL OVER AGAIN.

YOU MAY LIKE YOUR NEW STORY BETTER.
